Dr. Laura Vearrier is a Principal Investigator for the University of Mississippi Medical Center project,  “A Proposal to Establish the Mississippi Violence Injury Prevention (VIP) Program” and  a member of the Data and Methods Workgroup for the Community Firearm Violence Prevention Network.

Dr. Vearrier, MD, DBe is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). Dr. Vearrier is a graduate of Sidney Kimmel Medical College (formerly Jefferson Medical College). She is board certified in emergency medicine and addiction medicine. Dr. Vearrier completed her master’s degree in bioethics and health policy and doctorate in bioethics from the Neiswanger Institute for Bioethics at Loyola University, Chicago. In addition to practicing clinical emergency medicine at UMMC, Dr. Vearrier is faculty for the Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities and a member of the Ethics Advisory Board for the institution. She is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and serves on the national ACEP ethics committee.

Dr. Vearrier’s interest in violence prevention stems from her sixteen years of experience as an emergency physician as emergency physicians are the front-line providers for victims of interpersonal violence. Dr. Vearrier is dedicated to serving the community. Her entire career has been situated in safety net hospitals and caring vulnerable populations. She has co-authored the article The Economic Costs of Interpersonal Violence, published in Drexelmed Journal that explored the potential economic benefits of violence intervention programs.
