Dr. Sacha McBain is a Co-Investigator for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences project “The HVIP+ Community Model: A Community Violence Prevention Program in a Southern State.” She is a member of the Policy, Implementation, and Economic Evaluation workgroup for the Community Firearm Violence Prevention Network.

Sacha McBain, PhD is a clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, AR. Dr. McBain received her doctorate in clinical psychology at Palo Alto University. Dr. McBain’s research program is focused on integrated approaches to prevention and early intervention for PTSD with a specific emphasis on trauma related to medical events. Recent research efforts have included leveraging implementation science to develop and evaluate mental health screening and brief intervention protocols in acute and critical care settings. Dr. McBain also has a strong clinical background. In 2019, she developed the Trauma Surgery Psychology Consult Service on UAMS’ Trauma Surgery service to address the psychosocial needs of patients who have experienced a serious injury or illness. Her experience with implementation science within emergency and critical care services, clinical expertise with violent interpersonal trauma, and working relationships with key stakeholders will support this project.

She has completed training in community health, prevention research, and implementation science to identify and put into place organizational practices within healthcare systems designed to increase access to mental health care following a traumatic event. Dr. McBain contributed to the American College of Surgeons 2022 Best Practice Guidelines for Screening and Intervention for Mental Health Disorders and Substance use and Misuse in the Acute Trauma Patient Group and is an active member of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies.
